The Soul Nebula (IC 1848), also known as the Embryo Nebula, lies about 7,500 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It is a vast complex of gas and dust spanning more than a hundred light years: a genuine stellar nursery, where new stars are forming.
The nickname comes from its intricate structure, reminiscent of a growing embryo. It is lit by several clusters within it, whose powerful ultraviolet radiation sculpts the dense clouds around them. The winds of the young stars shape the dust into pillars, arches and ridges — the very structures visible along the edges of the nebula in this image.
The result of four nights in November 2024, for a total of 29 hours of integration.
