At 7000 l.y. from Earth, in the heart of the Eagle Nebula (M16), three molecular clouds of interstellar gas and dust soar to form, due to gravity three columns christened the Pillars of Creation. 
It is named for the star-forming processes, in the densest areas, that give rise to protostars (a phase when the molecular cloud collapses and a star is about to be born in the main pre-sequence phase).

In the photo, you can see the entire Eagle nebula and at the center, among the blue ionized oxygen the three pillars stand out.
Far more famous are the photos (1995) from the Hubble telescope and the more recent (2014) James Webb telescope, which I recommend you admire.
